The recent reboot of The Crow has earned the unfortunate distinction of being this year's largest disappointment at the box office. The much-criticized Borderlands film can now relax, as it has been surpassed in revenue struggles, with The Crow's opening weekend bringing in only around $4.6 million.
While Borderlands also had a lackluster debut, it still managed to generate nearly double the earnings compared to The Crow during its first weekend. The disparity becomes even clearer in the days that followed, as The Crow struggled to reach $10 million in total ticket sales, which is less than half of what Borderlands managed to accumulate in the same timeframe.
Furthermore, it is essential to note the production costs of both films; Borderlands had a budget exceeding $100 million, while The Crow's was reportedly around $50 million. This suggests that despite its poorer performance, Borderlands could ultimately be the more financially burdensome project for Lionsgate, the company behind both films.
As of now, The Crow reboot holds a dismal 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 30% score on Metacritic.
