Saoirse Ronan continues to reflect on the missed opportunity of playing Luna Lovegood. Among the impressive young talent emerging in the entertainment industry, the Irish actress has made a remarkable name for herself. With four Academy Award nominations to her credit, she has starred in critically acclaimed films such as Lady Bird, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Little Women. However, despite her successful career that many seasoned actors might envy, there remains one role she missed out on that still resonates with her.
During a guest spot on a nighttime variety program show, Ronan shared her lingering thoughts about not securing the part of Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter film series. Although she acknowledged that she was likely too young for the character, she expressed a strong desire to embody the beloved Irish character who gained immense popularity in the later installments.
Ronan recounted her experience auditioning for the role, highlighting how it involved a wide array of Irish talent as they sought to cast a fitting Luna. She was aware of her youthfulness and the competition, yet the chance to perform a scene from the franchise was a thrilling opportunity that she remembers fondly.
The part ultimately went to Evanna Lynch, who brought Luna to life in the films Order of the Phoenix, the Prince of Half-Blood, and the Hallows of Death Hallows - Parts 1 and 2. It leaves one to ponder whether Ronan would have also captured the essence of Luna, adding a unique interpretation to the character.
