The omnipresent influence of TikTok has already made all most major social networks add similar short video feeds. Netflix decided not to stay aside and prepared a Tik-Tok-style featured feed for its younger audience. Let’s take a look at how it works.
A Helpful Feed
Unlike the TikTok feed, Netflix’s featured feed won’t let kids publish their own clips, but will offer them a selection of short clips from the children’s programming library. The update is called to help younger users choose what to watch quicker. You may also notice that it’s very similar to the Fast Laughs feed that was launched in March 2021. The major difference between the two is that the feed for kids currently features only horizontal videos and limits the number of swipes to 10-20 clips max.
The streaming giant promises to add new clips to the feed daily based on the shows for kids that are currently available. It will also include clips that tease upcoming shows. The service hopes that this feature will help young users deal with decision fatigue and make good choices faster than before the update. For the same purpose, the platform added a Play Something feature in October. It allows you to shuffle shows by tapping a single button. The algorithm considers your average viewing patterns and offers a title based on that data.
Still Testing
As Netflix said to Bloomberg, the new feed for kids is still in a test phase and won’t be available to all users yet. It’s currently available only for users from the US, Canada, Latin America, Australia, and Ireland. Have your kids already tried the new feed? If yes, did it help them find a new exciting show to watch? Let’s discuss how the new feature helps our kids in the comments. Share the update with other Netflix parents you know to help them out.
