The NBA 2K series has continually received harsh critiques for its extreme use of microtransactions. Despite these criticisms, the game developers, Visual Concepts and Take-Two, do not appear to be making any changes in response. The situation seems to have worsened this year as the new badge system is reportedly exacerbating the problem, making the gaming experience exceedingly grindy.
Additionally, the game's model appears to be based on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, much to the dissatisfaction of PC gamers, rather than the latest generation of consoles. The culmination of these issues has led to extremely low ratings on Steam. Steam 250, a website tracking the worst-rated games on Steam, ranks NBA 2K24 as the second worst game of all time, with a disheartening score of 1.07 out of 10.
