Al Ewing's first-ever series for DC, Absolute Green Lantern, promises a thorough re-imagining of the Green Lantern concept by featuring multiple Lanterns. During San Diego Comic-Con, DC's president and chief creative officer, along with various colleagues, shared exciting updates about the impending DC All-In initiative. The most notable revelation was the announcement of a fifth book in the Absolute Universe line, honing in on Green Lantern. Ewing, along with artist Jahnoy Lindsay, will bring this new story to life. This follows previous announcements of Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman, Absolute Superman, and the recent reveal of Absolute Flash.
Specific details regarding Absolute Green Lantern remain limited, and DC has not yet provided any official artwork. However, fans can find some panel photos on Twitter, giving a glimpse into Lindsay's artistic direction. Scott Snyder described the series as a "first contact story" incorporating various Lanterns, including Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Far Sector's Jo Mullein, emphasizing that it is a comprehensive re-imagining of Green Lantern. Snyder also praised it as one of Ewing's finest works to date.
Notably, Ewing's transition to DC for this ongoing series stands out, following his previous work on a Starman story for this year's DC Pride. Ewing's portfolio predominantly includes Marvel titles, such as Guardians of the Galaxy, New Avengers, The Immortal Hulk, and the short-lived yet beloved Avengers Inc. He currently pens The Immortal Thor and the Venom War event.
Artist Jahnoy Lindsay has an impressive portfolio as well, having worked on Marvel titles like She-Hulk, Luke Cage, and Hawkeye: Kate Bishop. His work on last year’s Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow limited series for DC showcased his versatility. Additional news from the panel included Rob Levin's appointment as the new group editor for the Batman comic line. Levin brings extensive experience from his long association with DC, AWA, Valiant, and Humanoids.
On a related note, Al Ewing recently shared insights with us about his return to 2000 AD with the Harlem Zombos.
